25 June - 3 July
This year, the Jewish Culture Festival will be celebrated for the 15th time. This is one of the most important events of its kind in the world, and will run from 25 June to 3 July. It will be celebrated at an extraordinary time, as it coincides with the celebration of the 700th anniversary of the establishment of the Jewish community in Krakow and 1000 years of Jewish presence in Poland. The citizens of Krakow and festival guests from around the world will again have the opportunity to enjoy performances by the most prominent artists of Jewish culture, artists from Israel, the USA and other countries. More than 150 events will take place during the 9 day festival. The concerts promise to be the most exciting events, as in previous years.
On Sunday, at the opening of the festival, the most famous cantors will be performing: Mosche Haschel from the UK, Yaacov Stark from the USA, Chaim Adler from Israel and the Jerusalem Great Synagogue Choir. Krakow will also host Frank London, trumpet player and composer, who has performed in Krakow a number of times. There will be also Anthony Coleman, Cantor Jacob Mendelson, Aaron Alexander, and the Boban Markoviov Orkestar from Serbia. We will also be able to hear "kosher gospel" performed by Joshua Nelson and Shura Lipovsky, Theodore Bikel, Merima Kljuco, and the Mostar Sinfonietta Orchestra. The programme of the 15th Jewish Culture Festival also includes workshops devoted to Jewish cooking, Yiddish, paper cutting and Hassidic dance, as well as several lectures and meetings. The festival will culminate in a traditional concert on ul. Szeroka. The concert on the open-air stage will feature almost all of the stars who, over the course of the festival, will have performed in the Tempel Synagogue or the Cinema. Janusz Makuch, Festival Director, promises some more pleasant surprises. More information and the full festival programme are available at http://www.jewishfestival.pl
